Vipassana-Insight Meditation Retreat Insight (also known as Vipassana) Meditation is an easily accessible way to free the mind from the distortions of self-centeredness, craving, negativity, and confusion. Mental restlessness is an insidious and pervasive hindrance that all practitioners struggle to overcome. We can refine our skills for working with the modes of thinking that distract us from being mindful and concentrated: critical thoughts, planning, worrying, lustful thoughts, judging, memories, and internal commentaries, to name a few. Shaila Catherine, the retreat teacher,will present a sequence of strategies for dealing with obstructive mental patterns. Practitioners will be encouraged to develop a mindfulness-based meditation practice, while exploring these strategies for overcoming distractions.

Residential retreats create optimal conditions for the deepening of concentration and insight. They provide the ideal opportunity to set aside the business and pressures of daily routines, and focus intensively on developing the mind, clarifying perception, and opening the heart. The retreat will be held at the FCJ Centre located on the banks of the Elbow River in Calgary Alberta Canada. During the retreat, we will maintain silence to allow ourselves to focus on our inner experience and to see more clearly the movements of our minds and hearts. After the retreat starts, silence is observed except in the following circumstances   “While this work is challenging, I find the sweetest feeling of support and benevolence in the community of other meditators.
